Meet the Cook

I think that one of the key parts of writing a blog includes a short blurb about the writer. Because blogs are such a personal account, it becomes almost necessary to understand who is recording their thoughts.

This blog was originally the "College Guy in the Kitchen" but it had to change due to the fact that I have graduated.   It was time to create a more mature blog since I am still writing in it a year later. What had turned from a procrastination tool during school has become a more interesting hobby.

When I started this blog, I had started well into my university career. I had enjoyed trying and eating food before I went to pursue a higher education, but I had not cooked that often. Once I had left for school, I was forced to learn how to cook for myself.

It started very rough, and I had to start from the basic concepts of soups and sandwiches and I seriously lacked a culinary imagination. In my second year, I lived with a roommate that loved to cook, and that passion helped me to expand my own cooking universe. From that point on I have gained confidence (a key factor in any kitchen) and have started to explore new food frontiers.

Even though I am no longer in University, I dont believe that my student career is over just yet. There are still a few goals I hope to complete.

This blog documents my growth into the culinary arts. I have no training in cooking except for my own experiences, imagination, and the lessons from family. I have learned not only to respect how good food tastes, but the effort that goes into preparing it.

I hope you all enjoy what ends up on my plate!

Navigating the Blog
Under the labels, you will notice that it is broken down by the concoctions I have created. The heading "Dinner conversations" refer to my random musings and thoughts when it comes to cooking concepts. Conversations around the dinner table are just as important as the food that is served. Food brings people together, and the discussions that occur there are some of the most important.

"Culinary Explorations" are my writings after travelling. These are my thoughts about food away from my house, and in different locations around the world. During my trip across Canada, I wrote about the food found in Montreal, exploring the tastes and sensations of the food in that region.

The heading "Eating out" is about food I find in restaurants, bistro's and other dining places. This is my attempt at a restaurant review. I am of the belief that if I am going out for a good dinner, it had better be worth it! I hate paying big bucks for an expensive meal and having it taste less than amazing. A lot also goes into the staff, the atmosphere and the layout of a restaurant, and I try to give my honest opinion on these places.
